Lifetime Images - Frauke John
It all started in Detroit in 1989... While working as a nanny, a child in my care kicked my little red 'point and shoot' camera down the stairs. Her rather embarrassed mother lent me an old SLR, and encouraged me to take a photography class to learn how to use it.
I had the great fortune to study with Monte Nagler, a former student of Ansel Adams. Monte inspired me with his incredible passion for photography. I purchased my first 'real' camera and was on my way.
Since then, I have travelled widely, studying the work of other photographers and developing my own style. I was repeatedly drawn back to the beautiful landscapes and wonderful people of New Zealand and decided, during my second cycle tour around the country, to emigrate permanently from Germany. I settled in Christchurch in '97 and have since studied photography full time.
