Wedding Hints

Choose a wedding photographer that you click with.

Your wedding photography is the most important long-term investment you make in your wedding. After all the guests have gone home and your marriage has begun, your wedding album is the lasting record of the spirit of the love you share.

So it is vital that you choose a wedding photographer who understands what your wedding means to you. You need to know you can trust the wedding photographer to create a wedding album that is uniquely yours. That they will add value to your day.

For instance, a wedding can have its unpredictable moments, so you need to make sure that the wedding photographer is able to deal with stressful situations, crowd control and improvising at the drop of a hat, and to do it in a way that doesn’t detract from the enjoyment of your guests.

My clients say they choose me as their wedding photographer, not only because they like my style, but because they feel comfortable with me. I work with you to understand fully what spirit and scenes you want your wedding photography to capture. I listen, act as a sounding board, and bring fresh ideas to help fulfil your aspirations.

Wedding Albums

A wedding album that has been designed and made professionally is a wonderful way to preserve your photographs.

Choose a package that includes an album and you won’t regret it. A personalised wedding album is like a family heirloom. I can also provide a smaller version of your album for special people such as your parents.

There is a difference between the more traditional matted album and a modern magazine style album. The magazine style album offers a lot of different options regarding the design. I can show you some samples.

Before the wedding day…

It is important to plan your photographic experience and share with the photographer as much as you can about what you want.

For instance, do you want a classical or unconventional style? If you have seen photos in wedding magazines or on photography websites that have grabbed your attention, show them to me. This will help me to create a similar spirit in my photos for you.

Other wedding photography tips:

  • Source suitable locations in advance and have a plan B in case of bad weather.

  • Discuss with your wedding photographer what might work and what might not. Think in terms of your desired result, so you can work out together the best way of achieving that result, drawing from the photographer’s expertise.

  • Calculate enough time for each location. There is nothing worse than feeling rushed when you really want to relax and have fun. Some couples decide to have the fun photos of the wedding party taken before the ceremony so they can spend more time with their guests.

  • Hungry clients can be tempted to rush the photography process, which could have a bearing on the quality of the final shots. So have a hamper basket with you when you take off for your photography shoot.

  • Watch everyone’s alcohol intake: Drunk clients make the photographer’s job quite challenging and can result in a less than flattering photo!

  • Make sure you stay warm. For instance, have a cardigan handy that you can take off during the actual photo session. A beautiful shawl might even look very attractive in the photographs!

  • For group photos with families and relatives, make a specific list beforehand. Otherwise, you may forget someone important. Start with the extended family and work your way down to the immediate family on both sides. It is helpful to have an MC with a loud voice who knows the families and can gather people.

On the big day let your wedding photographer know what you want and if anything doesn’t feel right. At the same time, be open to suggestions. What might seem silly at the time could turn out to be your favourite photo later!
